India Chapter 2

1. A. The caste system divided Indian society into groups based on a person’s birth, wealth, or occupation.

1. B. Strict cast rules developed to keep people in their distinct castes.

2. A. The Rigveda contained hymns of praise to many gods.

2. B. The role that sacrifice played in Aryan society is when they burned the sacrifices like food, animals, or drinks, the fire would carry these offerings to the gods.

3. A. Karma is the good or bad effects have on a person’s soul.

3. B. Brahmanism is the Aryan’s religion, that is why their priests are called Brahmins. The Aryans religion was based off of the Vedas, and the Vedas helped create Hinduism.

3. C. In the Hindu religion, they believe in reincarnation, and karma affects which caste they will be born into after they die. This teaches people to accept their place in life.

4. A. The four main teachings of Jainism are injure no life, tell the truth, do not steal, and own no property

4. B. The Jains believed in nonviolence, this includes not performing sacrifices, unlike the Brahmins who performed sacrifices. This may have made it hard for the people who practiced Jainism.
